Understanding BRAKE FLUIDS

Racing brake fluid (characteristics and functions)

There are two types of brake fluid: “FMVSS (DOT) standard fluid”, which can be used for daily street use, and “Racing brake (Competition use) fluid”, which is used in F1 and GT car races.

Heat is the major enemy of brake fluid.

“Racing brake (Competition use) fluid” is designed to minimize the change in pedal touch when used continuously at high temperatures, in other words, to maintain a firm touch from start to finish.

Important roles of brake fluid include transmitting the driver’s foot pressure stably through the brake system and vice versa providing feedback information on the brake’s status back to a driver.
